Carlson School of Management
The Carlson School of Management is named in honor of Curtis L. Carlson, founder of the Carlson Companies, who gifted $25 million to the college. It was the single largest gift given to the college at the time. Mr. Carlson founded the Gold Bond Stamp Company, which was one of the first loyalty programs in the country. He purchased the Radisson Hotel in 1960 and built the organization into a national chain as well as TGIFridays and other hospitality companies. The Opus College of Business is named after a real estate development and construction company of the same name which was founded by Gerald Rauenhorst, a benefactor and Trustee of the college. In recognition of the decades long commitment Mr. Rauenhorst showed the university, St. Thomas decided to rename the College of Business in 2006.
