Founded in 1887, this university was originally developed as a place to educate teachers and was initially called Chico Normal School. Over the years, its name changed several times, and in 1972 it became California State University, Chico. Today the school offers over 100 undergraduate and graduate majors. California State University, Fresno was established in 1911 as Fresno State Normal School. In 1921 it became a teacher’s college, and today it offers majors in 64 undergraduate, 44 masters and 3 doctoral subject areas.
