HR Programs Offered at Wright State University

The Raj Soin College of Business at Wright State University offers several degree and certificate programs for business majors. One is a human resource management certificate program, which is open to those who have a bachelor’s degree and those who want to learn more about HR management. Students need to apply to the university and then apply to the certificate program. It features three required courses: Staffing, Human Resources Management and Management and Organizational Behavior. Students will also choose three electives from classes such as Compensation and Benefits, Legal Environment of Business, Positive Group and Organizational Development and Small Business Management.
Students who want to focus on business can choose the university’s Bachelor of Science in Business (BSB), which includes a concentration in human resources management. Concentrations are also available in management and management and international business. Each program includes the same 42 hours that compose the business core. Accounting Principles I and II, Financial Management I and Principles of Marketing are some of the classes in the core. Business majors will also need to take some prerequisites before focusing on their concentrations, including Management and Organizational Behavior, Fundamentals of Information Systems, Economics of Global Money Markets, Business Writing, and Business Ethics and Leadership Development.
In the HR concentration, students will take six required classes and two electives. The required classes include Legal Aspects of the Workplace, Human Resources Capstone, Staffing, and Compensation and Benefits. Wright State University offers various electives for business majors such as Conflict Management and Negotiation, Special Topics in Management, Theory and Practice in Employment Interviews, International Management and Positive Group and Organizational Development. All business majors at the university can do internships too. They have the option of working on the nearby military base or working for some of the region’s top companies.
About Wright State University
Wright State University is a research university in Dayton, Ohio. Located close to the Wright Patterson Air Force Base, it uses the name Wright State in honor of the Wright Brothers who were from Dayton. Established in 1964 after Ohio State University and Miami University saw the need for a public university in Dayton, it was so small that all classes were held in one building. The Wright Patterson Air Force Base donated excess land for a new campus, and citizens worked together to raise funds for that school. Wright State broke away from the other two schools and became a full university in 1967.
Also known as Wright State and WSU, the university has strong relationships with local employers through its cooperative education programs. Those programs allow students to work for some of those employers for course credit. It was the first campus in the city to ban tobacco use. To help students and faculty members quit smoking, the university offered cessation products and classes for free. Ranked as one of the best national and global schools by U.S. News and World Report, Wright State also ranks as a top American college on the Washington Monthly, ARWU and Forbes lists. Enrollment on the main campus includes more than 13,000 students, with hundreds of other students enrolled in classes on the university’s Lakewood campus.
Wright State University Accreditation Details
Wright State has the regional accreditation that gives students the chance to get financial aid when they complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). That accreditation comes from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS) of that organization. The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) also accredited the WSU programs in business and HR management.
Wright State University Application Requirements
Students applying to WSU can track their applications through the accounts they use to apply. Wright State accepts students who completed the Ohio core curriculum and also have a minimum ACT/SAT score of 15/830 as well as a high school grade point average of 2.0 or higher. Students who completed the Ohio core curriculum and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher also receive guaranteed acceptance as long as they submit an ACT/SAT score too. Those who did not graduate from an Ohio high school will need to take the same courses found in that curriculum, including four years of English and math classes up through Algebra 2, three years of science and social science classes and two years of one foreign language. Students should also take art classes and electives.
The $30 application fee charged by the university is due when students submit their applications. WSU allows students to use debit and credit cards to pay their fees, but they can also pay the fee in person. They will also provide official copies of their test scores and transcripts. Wright State accepts a basic or unofficial transcript as part of the application process. Before enrolling in classes, students will need to submit their official transcripts. More than 95 percent of students will receive an acceptance letter from WSU.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Undergrads attending Wright State who are Ohio residents pay $431 per hour when they take up to 10.5 hours of classes. Full-time Ohio undergrads pay $4,789 per semester and can take up to 18 hours of courses. Students who do not live in Ohio pay $865 per hour or $9,498 per semester to take 11 to 18 hours of classes. Any student who lives on the WSU campus will pay an extra $463 per semester, which covers the hospitality and other fees charged by the university. They also pay $2,844 each semester for a double room and $1,939 per semester for a basic meal plan that provides them with 20 meals each week.
The federal work-study program at WSU allows students who submit the FAFSA to apply for part-time jobs on the campus. Some positions are also available off-site. Academic scholarships of up to $3,500 help students cover their tuition and fees too. Wright State offers an online calculator that helps students see which scholarships they will qualify for based on their test scores and grades. Students can get grants and awards from the university as well as loans and grants from the government. Wright State University designs financial aid packages based on the need that each student shows on the FAFSA when applying to an HR degree program.
