Walden University offers a Master of Science in Human Resource Management, Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management, and a Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management.

The Master of Science in Human Resource Management enables students to acquire the analytical, organizational, management, and strategic abilities to pursue leadership positions in human resources. The program aligns with the competencies established by the Society for Human Resource Management. Students have the ability to choose from two tracks, one for experienced human resource professionals and one for those who do not have a recognized human resource professional certification. Students can also specialize in a specific area: General Program, Functional Human Resource Management, Organizational Strategy, and Integrating Functional and Strategic Human Resource Management. The general program requires the completion of a total of 30 credit hours and other specializations require 39 credit hours. The core human resources courses include Foundations of Human Capital Development, Strategic Human Resource Management, Talent Management, Human Resource Metrics, Managing Business Partner Relationships, Performance Management, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution, Budgeting and Resource Allocation, Building Organizational Capacity Through Succession Planning, and Capstone: Human Resource Planning in Action.


The Master of Business Administration in Human Resource Management provides the needed organizational know-how and leadership abilities for managing employees and the overall function of organizations. Students explore the key concepts in human resource management. The program requires the completion of 39 total semester credits, including core courses, elective courses, capstone courses, and specialization courses. The courses include Dynamic Leadership, Managing People and Promoting Collaboration, Fostering a Culture of Innovation, Managing Business Information Systems, Communication for Leaders and Managers, Human Resource Metrics, and Performance Management.

The Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management provides students with a strategic understanding of human resources and its role in business and human capital development. A total of 12 semester credits are needed to complete the program. The courses include Foundations of Human Capital Development, Talent Management, Human Resource Metrics, and Performance Management.

It was established in 1970 by two teachers with the intention of providing higher education to adult students.
